Stanislav Štepka: CHILDREN OF THE TIME

Intimate messages from our background (from 1950 to 2000)

On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the Radošinsk Naive Theater (December 25, 2023), the playwright Stanislav Štepka, the author and founder of the theater, intends to present a complete stage-poetic picture of life in our country, where, as if by chance, since 1963 the well-known small rural theater. On stage, we follow the stage-stylized Slovakian fifty-year life destinies of two different families from 1950 to 2000: the orphaned family of the later frivolous adventurer and supporter of suspicious lifestyles and solutions Vlad Piovarči and his beautiful sister Tereza, and the life, but also theatrical and intimate story of a villager Laca, who in his amateur theatrical and human way of life tries to believe, among other things, that "a good person still lives somewhere".

Directly in an accelerated film cut, we watch on stage from childhood to the year 2000 two colorful but different worlds of life and thought, but also surprising developments, unexpected twists and differences of opinion, we will experience the search for and the birth of love and lasting relationships, we will get to know the plastic and intricate family stories of our contemporary protagonists. In the case of Vlad Piovarči, we follow his unconventional and controversial way of life, which is not far from criminal, and in the case of Laco, the artistic world, which from the beginning has the signs of the future naive theater. Life tests the two main protagonists in their own way, but also brings them together in many ways, so that with their half-century winding life story, they indirectly report on life and theater in our country. Many themes and situations in the play have an authentic layout, which should add authenticity and audience appeal to RND's new stage management.

Štepka's sad-funny comedy Deti doby contains all the hallmarks of the poetics of the 60-year-old RND, such as humanity, humor, dialect, songs and, above all, a strong humane message.
